- Technical level
To give an overview of location services at Yahoo, and how different properties across the company utilize them. Also, an introduction to public facing location services exposed by Yahoo via YQL, etc.
Location, Location, Location.
In my talk, I'd like to discuss the technology being used to serve location data across Yahoo. I'll also discuss how how the many properties across the company utilize and contribute back to this data set. We'll also discuss how the technology stack enables it to be done at "Yahoo" scale.
Finally, I'd like to introduce some of the public facing web APIs that Yahoo exposes to developers to build their own location data based applications.
I work at Yahoo as a tech lead on the Maps team. I also do some open source work, and have spoken at hasgeek events a couple of times (eg - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTed4zwSyZ8 )
